Modification of aortic oxidative enzymes in rats by gonadectomy and substitutive therapy.

چکیده
• In a recent paper, it has been shown that the gonads regulate the respiration of the aorta in rats, since aortic QO2 was increased by gonadectomy while it was restored to normal values through the injection of estradiol or testosterone. It was also reported that this metabolic depression was probably mediated through a direct hormonal mechanism in the arterial wall, because similar results could be reproduced in vitro. Related reports in the literature show that changes in respiration are not restricted to arteries, since gonadectomy also modifies the oxygen uptake in other organs. In the brain, for instance, the QO2 is raised by this procedure, while it is depressed in sexual structures. The gonadal hormones themselves also show a variable effect on the QO^ of different tissues. Testosterone depresses the QOL. of liver, kidney, and brain in rats, while estrogens show a similar effect only on liver and kidney; opposite conclusions have been reported by oilier authors.

Role of oxidative stress in the aortic constriction-induced ventricular hypertrophy in rat
Introduction:Severe abdominal aortic constriction above the renal arteries induces arterial hypertension above the stenotic site that is the cause of cardiac hypertrophy. Previous studies have shown that high blood pressure induces myocardial oxidative stress with conflicting results. In the present study, we assessed the effects of acute hypertension on the myocardial oxidative stress an...
متن کاملSoybean feeding improves vascular dysfunction and atte-nuates oxidative stress in streptozotocin-diabetic rats
Background and Objective: In this research, the effect of chronic dietary soybean aqueous extract on aortic reactivity of streptozotocin (STZ)-diabetic rats was investigated. Materials and Methods: STZ-diabetic rats were treated with soybean aqueous extract for two months after diabetes induction. Contractile reactivity to KCl and phenylephrine (PE) and relaxation response to acetylcholine (ACh...
متن کاملEffect of Pimpinella tirupatiensis on Oxidative Enzymes in STZ-induced Diabetic Rat Kidney
The present study was aimed to evaluate the therapeutic potential of Pimpinella tirupatiensis (Pt) by assaying the activities of selective mitochondrial enzymes in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. Diabetic rats showed a significant (p < 0.01) reduction in the activities of oxidative enzymes Succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), Malate dehydrogenase (MDH), Glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) and isocitr...

Objective: The present study was conducted to investigate the antioxidant and hepatoprotective activity of the hydro-alcoholic extract of aerial parts of Artemisia dracunculus (HAAD) against CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity in rats. Materials and Methods: The antioxidant activity was evaluated by reducing power, 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2, 20-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulf...
